Graveyard fields loop to waterfalls of Yellowstone prong along the blue ridge parkway in North Carolina. The valleys name originates from a time when a great windstorm blew down hundreds of trees along the slopes and the stumps. It is near the source of the Yellowstone Prong of the Pigeon River. How I Got This Shot: I set the camera on a tripod off to the side of the falls with a portrait composition, so I could get the foreground rocks, splash pool and entire waterfall in the shot. Graveyard Fields is the name of a flat mountain valley in the Blue Ridge Mountains of western North Carolina along the Blue Ridge Parkway. This is one of the most popular spots on the whole Blue Ridge Parkway, so if you visit, be prepared for crowds, especially in summer and blueberry seasonįilters: circular polarizer and neutral density The mini valley that is the Graveyard Fields was named after a bunch of tree stumps (resembling tombstones, I guess) that were left after a severe wind storm. I shot it this past fall with a new wide angle lens which did allow me to get this portrait composition showing the entire falls with those beautiful striated rocks, the splash pool and the pretty foreground boulders. The Graveyard Fields overlook is at milepost 418.8, just over 25 miles from the NC 191/Brevard Road entrance to the Parkway in Asheville. I’ve been to Second Falls at Graveyard Fields in North Carolina many times, but have yet to come away with an image there that I really like.
